Hansel Allen and Simon Waite formed Joule in 2001 having worked together since the early 1990’s providing high quality innovative designs on numerous challenging projects for leading consultancies in London and Manchester.

Hansel Allen CEng MIStructE BEng (Hons)

Founding Joule in 2001 Hansel is responsible for managing the practice and leads the design of all projects in the office.

Previous experience includes leading the technical design on No1 Deansgate and Urbis whilst with Martin Stockley Associates in Manchester, and with Alan Baxter & Associates in London, the master planning of Manchester City Centre following the 1996 bombing and strategic regeneration of the Great Northern Warehouse.

Earlier in his career Hansel worked with Whitby & Bird in London and Bath on architectural and structural award winning projects.

Simon Waite CEng MIStructE BEng (Hons)

Simon Waite joined Joule in June 2001 as Director responsible for the technical development of the Practice where his daily involvement in projects in the office has included the design of MOHO, the award winning modular residential buildings at Britannia Basin in Manchester.

Key previous experience includes the Timber Wharf development with Martin Stockley Associates in Manchester and the award winning Whitechapel Sports Centre with Price & Myers in London. Earlier in his career Simon worked with Alan Baxter & Associates in London on a wide range of projects including historical building projects at the Tower of London, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Palace of Westminster, and the V&A Museum.
