Chimney Pot Park, Salford
In this traditional area of terraced housing in Salford, 450 houses across 8 streets were regenerated for developer, Urban Splash. This involved the re-invention of the terraced house, retaining the street pattern and building facades and working closely with architects Shed KM to create new three storey open plan houses maximizing the space in the roof to accommodate modern kitchens or bed decks. The rear of the properties have new uniform modern extensions, a communal garden and private parking.
Littlewoods, Liverpool
With developer Urban Splash, Joule worked with Architects Shed KM on this mixed use re-development of the existing Littlewoods Pools building on Edge Lane in Liverpool. Proposals involved careful retention of the existing 200m long façade and 12 storey tower and the construction of efficient new build steel framed structures.
The Three Towers, Manchester
Three 1960’s tower buildings, formally council housing, were refurbished and set in new landscaped grounds by Urban Splash for private sale.
Working closely with Union North the building refurbishment included carrying out alterations and concrete repairs to the superstructure and the re-cladding of the elevations to enhance the lifespan of the structure.
Oak Farm Extension
This project involved an extension to this RIBA Manser Medal
shortlisted house with ShedKM architects for a private client to provide
additional bedroom and study space.
A loadbearing masonry
construction form was chosen for the cellular plan scheme utilizing
bespoke blue bricks to the outer leaf of the external walls, with
detailed drawings required to establish the precise setting out
arrangement for every brick.
City South Manchester Housing Trust
This is a three phase project of modernising 11 towers for City South Manchester Housing Trust, with 2E Architects, Mark Heywood Associates, and Wates Living Space.
The 1960’s concrete frame buildings are repaired, over clad and over roofed to provide insulation and weather protection to current standards. The cladding and new roofs give the towers a contemporary appearance and functionality. High levels of insulation and rooftop photovoltaic panels contribute to the building's reduced and alternative energy supply.
Eastlands Homes, Manchester
With architects Dwelle and Halliday Meecham, and cladding specialist Mark Heywood Associates for Client Eastlands Homes, Joule are working on the modernisation of 6 reinforced concrete towers blocks in two phases.
The upgrade of the towers includes over cladding and over roofing the buildings to improve their insulation and weather protection. The roof structures are to enclose mobile communications equipment behind recessed GRC louvres.
Bewsey Old Hall
Working closely with architects Shed KM and English Heritage, this project involved providing design advice associated with the reconstruction of this Grade 2 listed building, severely damaged by fire.
Ty Coch
With Shrink Architects for Client Red Welly, Joule worked on the redevelopment of an old farmhouse and outbuildings turning them into an environmentally friendly holiday home.
Taking advantage of incredible views out onto the welsh coastline, the farmhouse was reconfigured and updated, and sheds for pigs and sheep were converted to become high quality comfortable living accommodation.
